Installation Support and Application Restriction Features Make Corporate Smartphone Environment Management Easier and More Secure

TOKYO—June 29, 2011—NetSTAR, Inc., Japan’s premier developer of URL filtering product technologies and services, today announced the release of NetSTAR Secure Screen and NetSTAR Setup Assistant applications as system integration solution tools for the NetSTAR Business Browser, an enterprise-class browser with access restriction features.

The Business Browser is an enterprise-class filtering service that combines a browser app for smartphones and tablet computers with NetSTAR’s cloud service platform. With this service, system administrators can centrally manage the smartphones and tablet computers used by employees to prevent them from viewing non-work-related sites or connecting to sites that may pose a security risk. The iPhone/iPad version of this service was released in December 2010, with the Android version released in May of this year.

With the introduction of the Android version of the Business Browser, NetSTAR has also released Secure Screen and Setup Assistant, two free system integration solution tools for the NetSTAR Business Browser. This answers the need of system administrators and the system integrators that support them to customize the browser to conform with corporate policy and implement a safe, simple, and reliable management environment for corporate smartphones and tablet computers.

Secure Screen is a home application for Android devices. It allows a device to display on its home screen only work-related applications approved by the system administrator. Setup Assistant is an installation utility. This application makes it easy to set up the NetSTAR Business Browser and NetSTAR Secure Screen.

Android smartphones are different from your standard laptop in that the system administrator cannot centrally control the installation and use of applications by employees and executives. This is why there have been reports from every quarter about malware applications that target Android devices, which from a security perspective is one major draw back to broadly deploying these devices for business use. NetSTAR Secure Screen allows system administrators to block the download and use of applications not explicitly permitted by the company. This also means that the Web browser can be restricted to the NetSTAR Business Browser. NetSTAR Secure Screen also comes with a screen lock that effectively prevents information leaks if the device is lost or stolen.

Both NetSTAR Secure Screen and NetSTAR Setup Assistant are provided free of charge and can be downloaded from the Android Market, but they require a NetSTAR Business Browser license to use.
